Bukhara Mosque
Brief Information
The Bukhara Mosque opened not as a separate, purpose-built place of worship, but inside the building of the Kingdom Leisure Center. Its arrangement is therefore understood through the juxtaposition of different functions: the mosque occupies the three-story right wing, has a separate entrance from Bukharskaya Street, but also has a direct passage into the restaurant, which is positioned as halal.
The name is connected not with Bukhara as a historical center, but with the address on Bukharskaya Street. An important later detail is the minaret: for the first five years the mosque existed without one, and in 2022 it was installed at the rear of the building. This addition changes the reading of the entire object: the religious function became more visible not through a broad facade gesture, but through a separate vertical marker.
What to Notice First
You can compare three parts that show how an ordinary modern building was adapted into a mosque. Outside, the varying number of stories and the three-story right wing are important: this is where the mosque is located, so the religious part does not coincide with the building’s entire volume. The separate entrance from Bukharskaya Street helps explain how it was set apart within the larger complex.
Inside, the main point of orientation is the prayer hall on the third floor. It is divided by two rectangular columns, and the mihrab is located in a corner part of the hall; these details are more important than the overall size because they show how the prayer space was inserted into an already existing layout. The minaret stands at the rear of the building: its two-tiered form, tented roof, and metal railing around the second tier turn the extension into a sign of the mosque, one that appeared later than the congregation itself.
